We are a privately owned energy company operating in Southern Africa. Our offering is directly aimed and suited for industrial applications, power generation and fleet owners wishing to switch and save by using Compressed Natural Gas that may support improved emissions performance depending on application and fuel displacement.
COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is natural gas that has been compressed and stored in high-pressure containers, enabling its transportation and storage for a range of energy applications. Natural gas is a widely used energy source with established applications in industrial, commercial and transport sectors. CNG can be used as an alternative fuel in suitable applications where traditional energy sources such as coal, diesel, petrol, paraffin, Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) are currently used. As with all energy sources, the performance and emissions characteristics of CNG depend on the specific application, equipment and operating conditions. Its versatility makes it a practical energy solution for a range of industrial and transport requirements. At CNG Holdings, we believe natural gas has an important role to play in South Africa’s evolving energy landscape and in supporting the development of diverse energy solutions. LAUNCH OF A VIRTUAL NETWORK
Virtual Gas Network was registered as a private company on 15 October 2008 to transport and supply CNG across the Southern African market.
INTRODUCTION OF A BETTER FUEL
Established on 23 June 2009, NGV Gas provides a turnkey solution to fleet owners who require a proven and environmentally-friendly energy source.
SHAREHOLDING
Reatile Energy holds a controlling interest in CNG Holdings, with a 61.36% ownership share since November 2024, having increased their share from 25.01% since 2014. The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) retains the remaining shares. This strengthened partnership aligns with Reatile’s vision to advance natural gas and energy distribution across Southern Africa, ensuring a commitment to safe, reliable, and high-quality energy solutions. This vision also upholds the highest standards of governance, safety, and customer service as we continue to grow and innovate together.
